jewelry care
Most of my jewelry is handmade from sterling silver, often with gold accents. With proper care and storage, it will last for years.
wearing your jewelry
Put on jewelry only after applying perfume, hairspray, moisturiser, or other cosmetics, as they can react with metals. Let those products dry before wearing your jewelry.
I highly recommend removing jewelry before sleeping; exercising; cleaning, gardening or other physical work; showering and bathing; swimming in a pool, hot tub or the ocean.
Chlorine, bleach, cleaning products, perspiration and strong sunlight can all affect your jewelry and speed up corrosion and tarnish of the metals, and affect color and durability of some gemstones.
storage
Store jewelry in a dry place, away from direct sunlight, heat and humidity.
Silver tarnishes by reacting to natural sulphur compounds in the air. Keeping silver jewelry in a sealed bag or wrapped in anti-tarnish cloth can help reduce exposure to air and slow down tarnishing.
Store each piece separately where possible so that pieces don’t rub and scratch each other.
Avoid storing jewelry on windowsills, near any heat source, or in bathrooms. Heat and moisture can damage stones and encourage tarnishing.
cleaning
I do not recommend using silver-dip solutions. These can completely remove the oxidized details on many of my designs.
For gentle cleaning:
Use a soft brush with a small amount of mild liquid soap and warm water, rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.
If the patina dulls on textured and oxidized jewelry, it can be refreshed by gently scrubbing with a soft brush and baking soda.
High spots can be polished with a gentle polishing cloth (I have these available). Avoid rubbing oxidized areas as this may remove the oxidized finish.
